A teenage youth was discovered deceased only a few days after being wrongly accused of stealing the cremated remains of a dead baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has heard.

Tragic Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents found his body in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

False Accusations Start

The investigation learned how his parent got a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if her son was her child. The message stated: "Inform him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony read to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's ashes had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An investigation report from authorities later concluded the supposed break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the items was not taken in the beginning".

Media reports about the alleged taken ashes generated online responses, and although Kai was not identified in the posts, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".

The "social media content were really upsetting", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Impact

She added that her son had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other individuals' opinions really were important to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had failed to reached out to the family by the moment of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like much longer".

When she talked to him about the supposed incident, she said her son told her he had gone into the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could use the bathroom whenever he needed, but denied taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed digitally after the accusations.

The inquest learned that a 19-year-old encouraged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had heard him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "family is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The inquest heard from educational staff at Connah's Quay High School.

On 8 November, she "heard some boys talking that the student had been arrested and that was the first I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the staff member said she rang the family's parents' landline and left a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.

The proceedings learned his family said they never receive that message.

Official Conclusion

Senior coroner informed the hearing he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Likely untruths were afterwards exaggerated and exaggerated through the platform of social media.

"During 11 November, he was interviewed by the police and after his questioning he was freed whilst inquiries proceeded."

The coroner concluded: "Exists no evidence that the actions or failures of any agency led to or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is impossible to determine his intent."
